10 Tag Team Wrestlers that are good enough to be World Champions
Tag Team Wrestling is sometimes put to the side on certain shows rather than it being the main attraction. One thing i think most Wrestling fans can agree on though, is that there are very few things better than a top class Tag Team bout. A Tag match can give you anything you desire. Whether it be excitement, intense near falls, mesmerising storytelling or jaw dropping spots that'll steal the show
On top of all this, over the years we've seen some beloved World Champions emerge from Tag Teams, and in the current climate of Tag Team competitors, it seems more likely than ever that we'll see more stars rise from Tag Teams and become main event calibre talent
Here's 10 Tag Team Wretslers from various promotions that are good enough to be World Champions!
***DISCLAIMER***
Before we begin, just to be clear by "World Champion" i mean the main championship on the specific show they're on
For example, if i mention an NXT UK star, I'd be talking about the NXT UK Title as the World Championship, not the WWE or Universal Titles
Now that we've cleared that up, let's get started with the list
RIDDLE
We begin this list as we take a look at arguably one of the most over Tag Teams in the world, RKBro.
Duos that consist of two drastically different characters do tend to work quite well in Wrestling, and this is no different. Riddle is one of the most over stars on RAW due to his unique character work and his relationship with Randy Orton. On top of that, he's a spectacular in ring worker as shown by his time in NXT, the Indies and at times, the Main Roster.
In WWE, it's hard to tell who'll be successful and who will ultimately fall down the pecking order but if it was me in charge, I'd slowly build up Riddle as that comedic face until he can capture that WWE Title, and you could even have him take the title off his current Tag Team partner, Randy Orton since that would be a pretty interesting feud to witness
JUNGLE BOY
Much like the previously mentioned RKBro, Jurassic Express could definitely be considered one of the most over Tag Teams on the planet. All you have to do is take a look at one of their entrances and you'll see the atmosphere they create, it's special. In recent months, Jungle Boy in particular has gained quite a lot of traction.
He's won the Casino Battle Royal, while eliminating the mega star Christian Cage along the way. And of course, he had that AEW World Title match against the Belt Collector himself, Kenny Omega. If Jungle Boy still had his doubters before that match, he certainly proved then wrong. Despite the loss, Jungle Boy showed his ability and determination and came so so close to becoming Champion. With how talented, popular, and young Jungle Boy is, the sky is the limit.
MONTEZ FORD
We head back to WWE for this next entry, but this time we'll be focusing on the blue brand, and more specifically, Montez Ford. The unique thing about Montez is that if pushed correctly, i think not only would Wrestling fans adore him, but i think he could pull in some non WWE viewers. He oozes charisma, can cut high energy promos, and he's solid in ring wise too (that frog splash especially is sensational)
If he was a top star, Montez could definitely be a huge money maker for WWE and I'd personally love to see it
SYURI KONDO
If you're a regular viewer of Stardom, you'll be more than familiar with Syuri due to her Match of the Year contender against Utami. I'd recommend that match to anyone that's reading this as it's quite frankly one of my favourite women's matches ever, it's THAT good
Syuri is currently in a team with Giulia, who is actually most likely to become the next Stardom World Champion, but personally i believe it should be Syuri. She's proved on multiple occasions now that she's one of the best female competitors in the world, and she's only gonna get better. It's very likely that at some point she'll hold that title over her shoulder, but i wouldn't wait around, her time is now.
And hey, who'd say no to another Utami vs Syuri match?
BLACK TAURUS
One of my main frustrations with IMPACT is the treatment of Black Taurus. Taurus is a big man yet can do spectacular high flying offense and is also ridiculously strong. He's got a stunning look, his gear and mask are eye catching and draw you to him immediately. He's just fantastic
Problem is though, IMPACT seemingly don't value him that highly. Taurus has mostly been used as a Tag Team Wrestler alongside Crazy Steve, who've had no success as of yet. Taurus also had a pretty good encounter with Josh Alexander for the X Division Title but apart from that he's not done much. He's occasionally picked up some wins, yet also some unnecessary losses. It's a real shame because if you've seen any of his work, you'll know he should be a top guy
REY FENIX
I mean, this is a pretty obvious one isn't it? Everyone that watches AEW is aware of just how incredible Rey Fenix is. You could make an argument for Penta to be a future World Champion too, and i probably wouldn't disagree with that. But we'll stick with Fenix for now
Just like the previously brought up AEW star in this list, Jungle Boy, Rey Fenix has also had a World Title match this year against Kenny Omega and it didn't disappoint. Everytime you watch a Rey Fenix match you know you're about to witness something remarkable. He somehow pulls out something new in every match, it's a feat that not many can accomplish. As I'm writing this, he's actually preparing for a huge Tag Title match at All Out against the Young Bucks in a Steel Cage, which should be a chaotic and mesmerising encounter
TOMOHIRO ISHII
Another obvious choice here, it's still baffling to me that Ishii has NEVER won the big one in New Japan. His accolades speak for itself, he's had 5 star matches in countries all over the globe and is commonly known among New Japan fans as Mr G1, due to his consistently top class bouts in the legendary tournament, the G1 Climax
He's currently one third of the Never 6 man Tag Champs, who have been the most dominant and entertaining title holders in quite some time. Ishii has been one of the main vocal points of New Japan for a while now, it seems unlikely at the moment but hopefully at some stage he gets what he deserves, that IWGP Heavyweight Title
ALI
The fact that Ali has never won any title in WWE is preposterous
We've seen in the past how good of a worker he is, that innovative match with Murphy from 205 live stands out. And recently too he's started showing how good he is at cutting a convincing promo. During his Retribution days, you could tell he was giving it his all to try and make the best out of a bad situation. Hell, he even put out videos on his Twitter account cutting brilliant promos for a match on Main Event against Ricochet! Ali is so dedicated to his craft and is extremely talented, it'd be a real letdown if he doesn't get that chance at the top
TRENT SEVEN
Despite being the less popular half of Moustache Mountain, Trent Seven is severely underrated
He may not be as talented as Bate in ring wise, but he can still put on a great contest, and he can also be quite a good character. I've seen multiple matches where Seven has done comedy which has received a high level of crowd engagement. I'd love to see him hold that NXT UK title someday, and you could tell a perfectly good story too considering the two other members of the former group "British Strong Style", Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate, are former holders of the UK Title
CHRIS DICKINSON
You might be familiar with Dickinson due to his work in both New Japan Strong and ROH, he's more commonly on ROH nowadays though as he's part of the faction Violence Unlimited and is one half of the ROH Tag Team Champions alongside Homicide.
Dickinson is a highly energetic performer and is a very enjoyable worker. He had a stellar match with Tom Lawlor earlier this year for the Strong Openweight Championship, which as of now has to be considered one of the best matches from Strong this year. Although he isn't quite a main eventer in ROH just yet, he's slowly establishing himself on that show and you'd have to assume that sooner or later, ROH will give him that well deserved push
