Bryan Danielson: A Wrestling Icon that keeps on getting better
Bryan Danielson is pretty alright isn't he? The guy has been in AEW for just a few months and is being bombarded with Wrestler of the Year votes. It's a testament to the magic the American Dragon obtains. He's not had ONE underwhelming match since debuting in AEW, and that's including a bout he had on Dark against Aaron Solo. It just seems like there's a new burst of passion within him, but that's not to say he hasn't always been this sensational
It might seem like an outlandish statement at first, but if you take into consideration the trajectory of his career, Danielson has got to be in the conversation for the best performer of our generation, and perhaps all time. Even when he was not being utilised as a main eventer in WWE, he still managed to be the best part of most shows he was on. He knows how to get a crowd invested by telling a story in all of his matches and makes his opponents look like legit stars. His success in WWE is even more remarkable when you consider he's not exactly the typical WWE main eventer. He's not a tall, muscular guy, he's simply just an incredible wrestler. Let's not forget that earlier this year whilst being in the WrestleMania main event, he was arguably the glue that made that match one of the most enjoyable Mania main events in years. Despite Danielson himself recently stating that he felt out of place in the encounter, and with many fans not being too happy about the situation either, he still managed to hold it together and have a terrific performance
With all his accomplishments in WWE alone that'd be enough for him to be in the debate for the greatest ever, but we can't talk about Danielson without mentioning his tenure in Ring of Honor. There's a reason many consider him the greatest and most influential wrestler in the legendary promotions rich history. Danielson has an insane match catalog and it's mainly due to his run in ROH. He's had a lengthy list of iconic matches with the likes of KENTA, multiple with Nigel McGuinness, Takeshi Morishima and MANY more. He also had the occasional classic bout in other companies during his early days, with one of the most notable examples being his battle against Naruki Doi in Dragon Gate USA. Once he hangs up the boots, his list of classics will be a mesmerising sight. You could genuinely make an argument that Danielson has the best collection of bouts of all time, he’s that freaking good
And as stated in the title, Danielson somehow continues to improve. He's had a stellar run in AEW as of right now despite only arriving very recently. Every week on Dynamite he manages to have high quality TV matches with a range of different opponents. He could easily work a part time schedule and still be a huge deal, but he's still got that desire he had when he was a rookie in ROH. He's wrestling like he's got something to prove, he's mentioned previously that these will be his last few years as a full time performer, so perhaps Danielson wants to display once and for all that he really is an all time great in the industry. With that in mind, it's vital that we appreciate the mans greatness while he's still doing what he does best on a weekly basis, his presence will never be replicated. Thank you, Bryan Danielson.
